Deja Nue started after a lunch conversation with a very close friend of mine who has an amazing entrepreneurial mind. Our conversation focused on how we could go into business for ourselves doing something we love. On the way home from that luncheon, the idea jumped into my head. I shared this with my daughters and Deja Nue was born.
There are 3 main reasons we decided to start a business………The first reason was to provide a shopping venue for our customers that allowed them to purchase “gently used” designer handbags without the worry and fuss. We want our customers to trust in us that we are working very hard to ensure that they purchase only authentic handbags from our boutique. Second, we wanted to make sure that whatever we did as a business would give back to the community. We chose a few local charities to donate a portion of our profits to (a minimum of 10% of our profits is donated). And finally, I wanted to provide an educational opportunity for my girls. In the process of setting up this business, they’ve been able to learn the basics of running and managing a business.
So you’re probably wondering where the name Deja Nue comes from……It took us several weeks to finally land on a name, and when we did, it stuck. Deja Nue is derived from the phrase “déjà vu”. We use the phrase “déjà vu” when we’re talking about something that’s happened in the past. The definition is “an illusion of having already experienced something”. With our Deja Nue name, it means that our handbags have been used before but are like New. We chose to spell Nue differently just because it was catchy…..
